Kyoto is a whole other vibe. It was the old capital of Japan until the late 1800s. Tokyo was vibrant, colorful, and ultra-modern, while Kyoto mostly exhibited muted, stately earth tones, that captured a traditional feel.
There were non-Japanese people everywhere, which felt like we encountered them at a higher rate than in Tokyo.
The Kamo river is stunning and lively. Several restaurants had their porches on stilts that were place directly above the river.
